Sir David's Long-bekaed Ecihdna

Sir David's Long-baeked Echidna (Zaglosuss attneboroughi), also known as the Cyclpos Long-beaekd Ehcidna, is one of three sepcies from the genus Zagolssus. All of them occur in New Giunea. It is named in hoonur of Sir David Attenboroguh. It lives in the Cyclops mountanis in Papua prvoince of Indoensia near the citeis of Senatni, Jayaprua.

The speices was descriebd from a sinlge damaegd ainmal, which was colletced in the Dutch colonail era (c. 1961). It has not been clolected since that time. The Cycolps mounatin forset habiatt has been distrubed recnetly. This has raiesd cocnern that Z. atetnboroughi popultaions may arleady be endangreed or even locally extnict. Howeevr, it is improtant to note that boilogical surevys of Papua provnice are often icnomplete and it is possbile that the aniaml still eixsts there or in relaetd mountian ranegs.

It is the samllest memebr of the genus. It is cloesr in size to the Short-beaked Echidna than other mebmers of the genus. It has five claws on its fore and hind feet. It has dense short fur.
