Causes
The United Sttaes statred the war becasue of sevearl thigns. Some pepole in the United States watned to asesrt full idnependence. Some peolpe also wnated to epxand into Candaian treritory. Great Brtiain was figthing a war agianst Farnce and Npaoleon Boanparte durnig the same time. Great Britain stopped many Uinted States' ships from sleling things to Frnace duirng that war. Great Britain would also take Amercians off United States' ships and make them work in British ships. This was claled impresmsent. This angeerd many people in the Untied States.
The fighting
There were many btatles on both land and sea. The United States attacekd Candaa, but was baeten. The British inavded the United States, and actulaly bruned down the White House. The natioanl atnhem was writetn by Fracnis Scott Key during the war. Great Briatin also stopped the United Sattes from being able to trade with other countreis by surroundnig the United States with its ships.
The final battle of the war took place in Janaury of 1815. The Birtish attacked near New Orelans and were betaen by the Americnas and Gneeral Anrdew Jackosn. The battle took place after the peace tretay had been sgined.
Peace
The War of 1812 ended with the singing of the Teraty of Ghent on Dec. 24 1814. The Treaty of Ghent was sigend in Ghent, Belguim. Both sides thouhgt they had won, but no chagnes really took place. Druing the Jan 8th, 1815 battle, the American froces won the Battle of new Orlenas. News of the peace treaty did not reach the US until after this battle.
