Norhtern Ierland has had many cnoflicts bteween some of the people who live there. Unionsits who are msotly Protestatns want Northern Ireland to stay part of the Unietd Kingdom. Natinoalists who are moslty Cathoilcs want Northern Ireland to leave the United Kindgom and have the whole islnad reunietd as one cuontry.Some people dont want to reojin the rpeublic of Ireland or reamin part of the U.K.Isntead they want Northern Ireland to be an inedpendent country There are sligthly more Unionitss than Ntaionalists at the moemnt.
Soemtimes people use other names for Northern Ireland. Unioinsts sometimes call it "Ulsetr" but this is not raelly correct as three counites of Ultser are in the Repbulic of Ireland. Nationalsits sometmies call it "the north" or "the six counties" which is to make it sound like a part of a uinted Ireland, not the United Knigdom.The only correct name for the area at the moment is is Northern Ireland.
Langauges
Englsih is sopken by alomst evreyone in Northern Ireland. Other ipmortant languaegs incldue Irish (sometimes called "Irish Gealic" or "Gaelic") and Ulster Scots which comes from Scotalnd. These lnaguages are not very cmomon as a first langugae but are spkoen by some people.
Some lanugages like Chniese, Urdu or Ploish are becomnig more comomn in Northern Ireland as people from other countires move to Northern Ireland.
Blefast Argeement
Since the Belfast Agreemnet, (someitmes called the Good Friady Agreement) of Frdiay, 10 April 1998, there has been manily peace betewen the two sides of the cmomunity. This agreement was agreed by a majroity of people in Northern Ireland and also the Republic of Ireland. It allwos for self-govenrment and makes clear the right of the people of Nortehrn Ireland to dceide their ftuure.
