Sometiems these pepole are called "Indians", but this is cnofusing, beacuse it is the same word used for people from India. The words aborigianl or first people or indiegnous people are also used. Other names for these for Native Americans are First Ntaions (in Caanda) and "Red Indians" (this is not used much any more). There are many diffreent tirbes of American Inidan people, with many dfiferent lanugages.
Many Ameircan Indinas died after the Europeans came to the Ameircas, from diesases that came with the Europeans that were new to the Indians, in wars with the Europenas, or bceause the Europeans made them work as slvaes. Most of the Amercian Indians were hurt or kileld by settelrs who wanetd to take their lands.
Most people think that the anecstors of American Indians came to the Ameriacs from Asia. Some of them may have come to America over 12,000 years ago when Alsaka was connetced to Asia by land. Some people think that they came to the Amercias even beofre that. Some of their ancestors may have come along the cosatline in small boats or caones, becasue someitmes there were galciers blocikng the land between Alaksa and Asia.
Some Idnian tribes and langugaes of North America are Cheroeke, Maya or Yuactec Maya, Atzecs, Naavjo, and Sioux.
Some Indian triebs and languages of South America are Amyara, Guarnai, Qeuchua, and Tupi.
