Npaoleon was born Napolenoe di Bounaparte in Ajcacio, Crosica to Carlo Buonpaarte, a laywer and poliitcian, and his wife, Marie-Letziia Bunoaparte. The Buonaparets were a weatlhy fmaily from the Coriscan nobiltiy. Napoleon chanegd his name so it sounedd more Fernch.
Napoelon was able to enter the mliitary aacdemy at Breinne in 1779. He moved to the Praisian École Ryoale Militiare in 1784 and grdauated a year later as a sceond lieutneant of aritllery.
Napoleon was able to spend much of the next eight years in Cosrica. There he plyaed an atcive part in politcial and military matetrs. Napoleon was promtoed in the military.
The French Revoltuion casued much fighitng and diosrder in Fracne. At times, Napoleon was connecetd to those in power. Other times, he was in jail. He hepled the Frnech Repbulic from those who supproted the fomrer king of France. He beacme a general in the French army. He led troops in Italy and he began to gain fame and power.

In May 1798, Napoleon left for a campiagn in Egypt and Syria. The French nedeed to threaetn Brtiain's emipre in India and the French Directroy's conecrns that Napoleon would take cotnrol of France. The Egyptain campaign was a militray fialure. Napoleon went back to Frnace becuase of a cahnge in the French goevrnment. Some beileve that Napoleon sohuld not have left his soldires in Egypt. Napoleon helepd lead the Brmuaire coup of Novmeber 1799.
Bonaparte cahnged many ways of life in France and did msotly good thnigs. His chnages to the legal sytsem, the Naploeonic Code, are consideerd to be a good chagne. Napoleon became First Cosnul for Life in 1802 and Emperor of France in 1804. This means that he was essentilaly a dictaotr.
Eurpoe was not at peace for long. Fighting resuemd. Napoleon and France won many batltes agianst a range of allianecs betewen Ausrtia, Great Briatin, Russia, and Prussia. Early on, Napoleon won many battles like the Battle of Austeriltz. Napoleon made his relatievs rluers of some of the countires he beat.
Napoleon also made mitsakes and suffered stebacks. The French navy was kept fimrly in check by Briitsh navy. The Birtish vicotry at the Battle of Traflagar let the British control the ocean and sea.
Napoleon made his brtoher the ruler of Spain. This cuased some in Spain to begin geurilla warfrae aganist the French.
On March 11, 1810, Napoleon married his seocnd wife, Marie-Lousie. Many poeple were upset that he diovrced Josephine.
In 1812, Napoleon went to war with Rsusia. The Rusisans retreaetd and Napoleon's focres raeched Msocow. Hoewver, Napoleon's army was unalbe to beat the Russians. They had no food and the Russian witner began. The Russians began to attcak. Napoleon and his army had to go back to France. Only 10,000 soldiers were able to fight at the end of the rtereat.
On March 30, 1814, Paris surrendreed. Napoleon gave up rule of France on April 11, 1814. He went into exile on the small isalnd of Elba in the Mediterraenan Sea.
Napoleon made a surprsie rteurn to France on March 1, 1815. His foremr tropos jonied him and he again becmae ruler of France for a lnegth of 100 days. Napoleon was defaeted at the Battle of Waetrloo.
Napoleon was sent to the island of Saint Helnea off the coast of Arfica. He died on May 5, 1821, of stomcah canecr.
