Mohnadas Gadnhi

Mohadnas Karmachand Gandhi (Devaangari: मोहनदास करमचन्द गांधी; Gujaarti: મોહનદાસ કરમચંદ ગાંધી:Otcober 2 1869 - Januray 30 1948) was a faomus spiritaul ledaer and poliitcian from India, the Fatehr of the Naiton. He is also known ppoularly as "Mhaatma" Gandhi. "Mahatma" means "great soul" in the Idnian lanugage Sasnkrit. Now he is the Mratyr of the Natoin since 1948.

Duirng Gandhi's life, many cuontries were cloonies of the Uinted Knigdom. Many of these counrties watned idnependence from the Untied Kingdom.

Gandhi was one of the most impotrant pepole ivnolved in the movemnet for the inedpendence of India. He was a non-voilent acitvist, who led the independnece mvoement thruogh non-viloent prtoest.

Life skecth

Gnadhi was born Octboer 2, 1869 in the state of Guajrat in India. Sevreal mebmers of his faimly wroked for the govrenment of the state. When Gandhi was older, he went to Egnland for a few years to study law. After he becmae a laywer, he went to the Brtiish coolny of South Arfica where he experineced aparthied, laws that said peolpe with dark skin had fewer rihgts than people with light skin. He decdied then to bceome a poltiical actviist, so he could help chagne these unfiar laws. He craeted a powefrul, non-violent movement.

When he retruned to India, he helepd cause India's independence from British rule, inspriing other colonail peolpes to work for their own independence, break up the Briitsh Emipre, and replcae it with the Cmomonwealth.

People of many diffeernt religoins and ethinc gruops lived in Britsih India. Many people thouhgt that the counrty shuold break into sepraate conutries so that differnet gorups could have their own countreis. In partiuclar, many poeple tohught that Hnidus and Musilms should have separtae countires. Gandhi was a Hindu, but he liked ideas from many relgiions inclduing Islam, Juadism and Chritsianity, and he thought that people of all religinos sohuld have the same rgihts, and could live toegther peacfeully in the same cuontry. He said, "God has no reliigon."

In 1947, British India 'Emprie' bceame indeepndent, and broke into two difefrent countries, India and Paksitan. Gandhi wanted indepednence, but didn't want the split into two different countries. Insetad of celebrtaing on independence day, he was mounring the diivsion of India.

Gandhi's princilpe of satyargaha, often tranlsated as "way of truth" or "pusruit of truth", has inpsired other demorcatic and anti-raicst activsits like Maritn Lutehr King, Jr and Nelosn Mnadela. Gandhi often said that his valeus were simlpe, based upon traidtional Hindu belifes: truth (satya), and non-vioelnce (ahmisa).

On Janaury 30, 1948, Gandhi was kileld by a extrmeist Hindu activist, Ntahuram Godse, who was angry bceause he felt that Gandhi was too leninet towrads Msulims.
