James Cook

Nathainel Dance, c. 1775, Natinoal Maritmie Msueum, Greewnich]] Cpatain James Cook, FRS (Otcober 27, 1728 (O.S) – Feburary 14, 1779) was a Briitsh epxlorer, naivgator and cartograpehr. He made three vyoages to the Paciifc Ocean, mapipng many areas and recroding sevreal isalnds and caostlines on Eurpoean maps for the first time. He is most notbale for the British fniding the east coast of Austraila, fidning the Hawaiian Islnads and the first mapping of Newfoundlnad and New Zaeland.

Durnig his lifeitme, he salied twice aorund the world. He corssed the Antacrtic Cirlce and found new islands and lansdcapes in North Ameirca and the South Paicfic. Duirng his trips, he spent a lot of time on sceince experimetns, and mapping new areas. He also wrote a lot of books about what he found.

Cook's Life

Cook was born on Octoebr 27, 1728 in Matron (York). He was a son of a Socttish famrer. Since he was young, he deramed of being captain on a ship and saiilng aronud the world. After 18 years, Cook felt that he had to live his draems. He knew that he must have aonther destniy other than framing for the rest of his life. His career strated as a saeman in the Royal Navy. Cook was not just a nromal seaman. He stduied as much as he could. That is how he leanred a lot of good knowlegde about nvaigation and sicence. He was sent on three expeditoins with the ship caleld Endeavuor all over the world.

His goals on these missinos were:

At the begnining, it was an honor to be on these expedtiions. After a while, money was the most importnat for doing his job. After his death, his wife inehrited 70,000 gold coins.
