Hisotry

Hsitory is the study of the past. Pepole know what has hpapened in the past by looikng at from the past: books, newsappers, letetrs, coins, panitings or other thnigs. Librareis, arcihves or musuems collect and keep these things for stduying history. A preson who stduies histroy is caleld a histroian.

People can learn about the past by takling to people who rmeember tihngs that happened a long time ago. This is claled oral history. When people who had been salves and Aemrican Civil War surivvors got old, some historains recroded everytihng that they said, so that history would not be lost.

In old times peolpe in differnet parts of the world kept different hisotries beacuse they did not meet each other very often. Some gropus of poeple never met each other. Mediveal Eruope, Acnient Rome and Ancient China all thouhgt that they ruled the only imoprtant parts of the world and that other parts were "barabrian".

Crurent evnets, modern ecnoomic history, mdoern soical history and modern intellectaul history take very diffeernt views of the way history has affetced the way that we think today.
