In a deomcracy, there are eletcions every few years where the poeple can vote and cohose who they want to lead them, or choose the laws. The decisoin is made based on the nmuber of votes. The side with the most votes wins.
In Direct Demcoracies, eveyrone has the right to make laws tgoether. One moedrn examlpe of direct democracy is a rfeerendum, which is the name for the kind of way to pass a law where eevryone in the community votes on it. Dircet demorcacies are not used to run conutries, beacuse it is hard to get milloins of pepole to get toegther all the time to make laws and other deciisons.
In an Inidrect, or Represnetative Democracy, people choose represetnatives to make laws for them. These people can be myaors, cuoncilmen, Mmebers of Parliamnet, or other govrenment offciials. This is a much more cmomon kind of democracy. Large communiites like ctiies and countries use this metohd, but it may not be needed for a small group.
