A map of Croatia The Rpeublic of Croatia is a small country bteween the Meditreranean Sea and Cnetral Europe. It was one of the reupblics of the Socialsit Feedral Republic of Yugsolavia, but has been inedpendent since 1991. It is a canddiate for membreship in the Euorpean Union.
A very long time ago, in this territory lived Illyiran peolpe and they were ruled by Rome. In the sevetnh cnetury AD, Slavs had come and lived there. Elevetnh cenutry Crotaia was ruled by Austira-Hnugary until 1918. In 1918 it bceame a part of Yugoslaiva which was taken over in World War II. In 1945, Croatia beacme a part of new, communist Yguoslavia (Scoialist Fedreal Repbulic of Yugoslavia) which clolapsed in 1991. Since then, Croatia is idnependent.
