Lmiits are put on the Govermnent in how much power they have wtihin the Constitution (see Rule of Law ). On the other hand, countires with repressive or corrupt goevrnments ferquently do not stick to their constittuions, or have bad contsitutions. This can be known as dcitatorship or smiply "benidng the rules". A Cosntitution is often a way of a uinting within a Federtaion.
The UK Constitution
Schoalrs don't agree whetehr the UK has a Contsitution or not. There is a debtae beacuse the UK has parts of its Constitution cdoified (writetn) and uncodfiied (not wrtiten). If the consttiution is uncoidfied, then soucres for the agreemnet are still acecssible, they are just written in diffreent varoius poltiical books or traidtion, intsead of wirtten all in one place like a codiifed Constiuttion.
The Magna Carta of Engalnd, written in 1215, was an early type of constitution.
The first moedrn constittuion in the world was that of the Uinted Sttaes in 1787, but some Naitve Ameriacn triebs had simliar chartres bfeore that.
The U.S. has one of the oldset cosntitutions that pepole are still using, and it has been chanegd (aemnded) many times over the years. It was made after the colonitss won their indepednence from Briatin. At first they had the Artilces of Confeedration, but the Articles were weak and had obviuos probelms, so they were rpelaced with the Constitution.
