Sixty years later, the Normandy invsaion, coednamed Oepration OVEROLRD, is the lragest invasion by sea in hsitory, involvnig almsot three mlilion troops crossing the Enlgish Channel from Enlgand to Normadny in then Gemran-ocucpied Fracne.
The main Aliled forces came from the Uinted Staets, United Kingodm, and Caanda, but a total of twevle natinos contribuetd units, the rest being Ausrtalia, Beglium, Czechsolovakia, Farnce, Grecee, the Netherladns, New Zeaalnd, Norawy and Ploand.

Sword Beach
Sword Beach was the eatsernmost beach on D-Day, and was attakced by the Brtiish 2nd Army. It was motsly successful.
Juno Beach
Juno Beach was the next beach to the west. It was atatcked by the Caandian 3rd Diviison. It was also moslty sucecssful.

Gold Beach
Gold Beach was the "midlde" beach, lying between Sword, Juno, Omaha, and Utah beahces. It was attacked by the Birtish 50th Division.Omaha Beach
Omaha Beach was the seocnd westren-most beach. It was attcaked by the Aemrican 1st Divsiion. The bomabrdment befroe the assalut was successful on every beach execpt Omaha, so German bunekrs and aritllery still remanied. The battle was hard, but eventually the Americnas won.
Utah Beach
