The Btatle of Dunkirk took place in 1940, near the bgeinning of World War II. The Gemranarmy defaeted the Birtish and Fernch, splittnig their army in two and trapipng the smalelr part in the north. The nrothern part of the army retretaed to Dunkirk, Frnace, a port on the Egnlish Cahnnel. There the Royal Navy hepled protcet them and many tohusands of them saield to Englnad. A large force of Briitsh and French sodliers were cut off in notrhern Fracne by a German amroured advacne to the Chnanel coast at Calias.
